Photography for me is always about emotion. Less important is the manufactured image, more important is the documentary- style, ‘day- in -the- life’ image, now commonly known as Lifestyle Photography. I like to keep it real.  I like honesty in life and I like it in my photographs. Whatever happens on the day is what I will capture.

As I am keen to continue developing my lifestyle portfolio, it was both a pleasure and an honour to have the opportunity to photograph some very dear friends of mine recently. Their story is their own, but suffice to say they have been on a journey that has resulted in their two precious and much longed- for babies. Most of us hope for children and imagine this will happen for us when we are ready. The possibility that this may not become a reality for all who desire it is heartbreaking. This is a truly wonderful outcome for this family.

I have known Jarrad since we were 15, at school together. I’ve watched his story with the lovely Jaymie unfold from the beginning, was lucky enough to attend their beautiful wedding and have been able to share in their joy as they have welcomed little Maddie and now Bastian. Jaymie or J as we all know her, puts her heart and soul into everything she does.  For both of her babies, she has created beautiful, bespoke nurseries. She’s a dab- hand on her sewing machine! So naturally when I photographed this family, it had to be about all of the amazing personalised details that mean so much and deserve to be preserved. What I love most about this session is that because I know this family, I can see that they are totally relaxed and being themselves. I want my clients to look at their photographs years from now and see their reality at that time captured forever.

To have people believe in your skill for imagery, which is always so personal and subjective, is the greatest compliment you can ever bestow on your photographer. Jarrad and J, thank you xo
