Everyone knows of my passion for people’s stories. I can sit and listen enraptured for hours over a cuppa or spend hours simply observing the people and goings- on around me. My photography must tell the authentic story of the subject/s in that moment. I don’t photograph in that sterile, manufactured way- it tells me absolutely nothing about my subjects. So when the lovely Kate rang me on the way to their family photography session and said something along the lines of “I don’t know how this is going to go Michelle, I’ve just woken them both up and they’re both out of sorts” I simply replied we’ll just roll with it. The way that I photograph is unobtrusive, I tend to have minimal expectations, preferring to let the session ‘evolve’ as we get to know each other and relax into it.
Two rather disgruntled little people duly arrived with their parents :) I said, “Let’s just let them play.”
The result was this gorgeous afternoon of images, the story of a family at play. Love it. This kind of visual documentary makes my soul happy!
